Radioactive Contamination in Water Is More Common Than You Think
If you drill a water well through natural deposits of uranium, thorium, radium, or radon gas, you may have elevated levels of radioactive materials in your drinking water. Radon gas comes primarily from uranium decay — if you're concerned about radon in your basement, you should also test your water well.
Uranium Country
Western New Mexico, Saskatchewan, Odisha (India), and other regions with naturally elevated uranium and thorium in the ground.
Near Known Spills
Proximity to Chernobyl, Fukushima, or other documented nuclear contamination events may mean elevated isotopes in groundwater.
Radon Concerns
Radon in your basement comes primarily from uranium decay. Testing your water well for alpha-emitting radioisotopes is the first step.

How It Works
Order the Kit
Purchase the $35 test kit. It ships with everything you need to collect and submit a water sample.
Collect Your Sample
Fill the provided vial with your drinking water, or the salt water your water softener expels during regeneration. Seal and label using the included bags.
Send It to BSI
Use the included return envelope to mail your sample (up to a gallon accepted). No special hazmat packaging required for these levels.
Receive Your Report
BSI sends a confidential report detailing alpha-emitting radioisotope levels found, along with NIH and federal publications on associated risk levels and remediation options.
What's Included
Confidential report includes NIH publications on risk levels and remediation options for your specific results.
Alternative Option
DIY In-House Testing
For those running many routine tests or requiring absolute confidentiality within their own laboratory, BSI sells the necessary equipment to process test kits yourself.
Standard Service
Send to BSI
Mail your sample (up to one gallon) and receive a confidential report with full quantitative results and federal risk-level guidance. Best for individuals and one-time screening.
DIY Option
In-House Processing
Ideal for organizations that need to run routine tests regularly or want complete internal confidentiality. BSI supplies the processing equipment and training so your team can analyze samples independently.
Good for: research labs, municipal water monitoring, facilities near legacy nuclear sites.
