Water Radiation Testing Kit

This Water Testing Kit is intended for testing the amount of dissolved radioactive species in your water. It tests for dangerous alpha emitters such as uranium and thorium.

To use, fill the supplied vial with water you wish to test, peel off the protective film from one CR-39 piece and immerse fully, secure the cap on the vial, record the starting date, and wait for at least 90 days. The second CR-39 piece should be kept nearby the vial as a control.

After 90 or more days have passed, remove the CR-39 from the water and let air dry while being careful not to leave any marks or debris on the plastic. Record the ending date. Put the exposed and control CR-39 pieces in their respective bags and mail with the supplied return envelope.

This kit includes:

  • (2) CR-39 pieces with protective film
  • (1) Plastic Vial and cap
  • (2) Labeled plastic bags
  • (1) Return envelope
  • Instructions on its use, safety procedures

We also offer a Do-It-Yourself kit where you can analyze the CR-39 and compare to a supplied calibration curve. This requires an optical microscope and a way to measure the area.
