CR-39 Solid State Nuclear Track Detector

The CR-39 solid state nuclear track detector ships as 1 by 1 inch squares and 1/8 inch thick with protective plastic film coverings. The protective covering must be removed to detect any particle other than neutrons. After exposure to radiation, the CR-39 must be developed in a NaOH solution and then inspected under a microscope. Like photographic film, CR-39 can be overexposed to radiation.
